Together with the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF), we are auctioning this super limited edition DEF CON Skatedeck, signed by a hoard of this years DEF CON speakers, including Jeff Moss /The Dark Tangent, Major Malfunction and Mikko Hypponen and others.

DEFCON DEck

You could own this.

We’re spicing things up a bit….

Initially we agreed to split the proceeds from the auction of the skatedeck 50/50 with the EFF, but we figured we’d let you decide how to distribute the proceeds.  Here’s how it works…

You decide how how much the EFF get (minimum of 50%)

A minimum of 50% of the sale will go to the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF), but to spice things up a bit, we’ll let the winning bidder decide how to divide up the remaining 50%, even if it turns out that EFF get the full (100%) proceeds (they’re a smashing bunch and a worthy cause).

What the heck do we (The Online Privacy Foundation) need funding for, you might well ask?

Well, we’re passionate about the Online Privacy Foundation concept and have each invested a ‘not inconsiderable’  sum on items such as:

  • Websites hosting services
  • Travel expenses for community activities
  • Advertising  and marketing (printing flyers ain’t cheap, not when you print as many as we did)
  • Buying research papers (at $15 to $30 each, the money soon adds up)
  • Stock Images for presentations (100 slides, images on each…..not cheap)

We’re now in the process of formally incorporating our charity as we focus on our ‘education in the community’ outreach activities.  Any funds generated, however small,  help us to pay for things like:

  • Trademarks and any incorporation costs
  • Research papers/material for future projects
  • Advertising/Marketing

So, you get to decide whether EFF get 100% or slightly less.  You’re the bidder, it’s your choice.

Wondering where the other DEF CON deck went?

When Jayson Street asked us for a deck for the BloodKode challenge, we simply couldn’t say no, in fact it was more like “how soon do you need one?”.

You see, the BloodKode challenge was all about getting DEF CON attendee’s to donate blood for a young gentleman called Matt “BarKode” Lewis.  Matt’s got a rare disease called PNH and needs regular blood transfusions until he can get the urgent bone marrow transplant he needs.  Read more about it here.  This  link provides information on how you can help.

We think you’ll agree that this deck went to a very good and inspirational cause.  In fact the mobile blood donation unit was filled so quickly, that it brought one of the nurses to tears.
